Who I Am & Why I Can Help
I never intended to get into the world of fertility. In 2001, I started as a general acupuncturist in Philadelphia. My 3rd patient walked in and showed me a newly published and first-of-its-kind study showing acupuncture could help raise the success rate of IVF. She brought me to her fertility clinic and I did my first on- site acupuncture, and then proceeded to shadow all the different Reproductive Endocrinologists who were willing. Afterwards, I was the only practitioner in Philly who had the right experience that fateful Sunday in Sept of 2003 when Charlotte got Acupuncture in Sex and the City for her infertility. I think I got 40 phone calls the next day and thus a specialty was born.
Since then I’ve brought Acupuncture to every fertility clinic in the Philly area. I assembled and trained a team of 10 practitioners to help with the new volume of patients, all while continuing to absorb and learn as much as possible about the field both from a scientific point of view, as well as from the eyes of the women and men going through it. I’ve spent more time than probably anyone sitting in those waiting rooms in between treatments. That experience, and the empathy it created, led me to start the podcast Waiting for Babies. I wanted to fight the stigma of infertility, to humanize the experience, and also to educate everyone on what these patients were actually going through.
Just in case you didn’t think I was deep enough in this world quite yet, here’s some other stuff I’ve done:
Became the current Vice-Chair of the Complementary & Integrative Medicine group for the ASRM (American Society of Reproductive Medicine).
Hosted a month long showing of the Art of Infertility to educate and break the stigma of infertility at the Old City Jewish Arts Center in Philadelphia.
Supported fertility awareness through multiple talks, videos, acupuncture demonstrations, donations and outreach via organizations like the PCOS Challenge, Path 2 Parenthood, BabyQuest Foundation and the Cade Foundation.
My goal is to help you make the right decisions for your fertility journey, while keeping you healthy and mostly sane along the way.
If you’re looking for crystals and jade eggs I am very much not your guy. Both in my practice and in my fertility navigating, I rely on the most up-to-date research and knowledge of reproductive science. I combine this with multiple mental and physical health practices from acupuncture to mindfulness based stress reduction, pelvic floor exercises to integrative medicine.
Most importantly, I rely on compassion and understanding regardless of how slow, fast or sideways the journey goes.
